Coffee Talk: Building an Inclusive Workspace

Work visas and different paths to citizenship

Employment sponsorship for international professionals may be a complex process, but that does not mean it has to be overwhelming. Join us for an important panel discussion with professionals from the AEC industry that have either previously gone through the process of obtaining a work visa to practice in the United States - or are in the process right now. We will then break out into small groups to facilitate open and honest conversations about the work visa and citizenship processes.

We hope this forum provides a sense of belonging for others that may be on this path, as well as insight and education for employers that may be intimidated by the work visa sponsorship process. The truth is, diversity of backgrounds and lived experience add richness, thought leadership, and immense value to our workplaces and communities. We are doing a disservice to our international peers – as well as our clients – by not actively supporting individuals on their journey to acquire a visa and possible citizenship in the future.

NOMAKC holds a series of Coffee Talks throughout the year to facilitate often challenging, yet important, discussions like this one that cover the complexities of diversity and equity in the profession. Each discussion brings forth a multitude of experiences that are shaped by a person's identity and the way it influences their journey as a design professional.
