Belger Arts Ceramic Workshop

Flex those creative muscles with a hands-on clay experience on the potter’s wheel. Artist Erin Drake will demonstrate the process, then guide you as you craft and decorate your own unique ceramic work of art. Choose as much or as little guidance as you prefer throughout the experience. The Belger team will handle the glazing and firing. Your artwork will be ready to pick up in a few weeks. All materials, tools, firings, and aprons are provided—just dress for a mess or bring a change of clothes.

Enjoy a memorable experience designed to spark innovation and creative problem solving. (Bonus: Belger Crane Yard Studios has some of the best views of Kansas City and plenty of free parking.)

ABOUT

Erin Drake

Erin Drake was born and raised outside of Toledo, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio ceramics and printmaking from Bowling Green State University in 2021. During her studies, Drake worked as a studio technician and served as a studio assistant to John Balistreri, assisting him with this large public art installation at the Kansas City Airport. After completing her BFA, she pursued her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at the University of Missouri’s School of Visual Studies, graduating in 2024. Since relocating to Kansas City, she’s continued her passion for teaching leading classes at Driftwood Ceramics and Belger Crane Yard Studios.

Currently, she is a Foundation Resident at Belger. Drake’s work centers on observations of the natural world, seeking to blur the line between the organic and the imagined. She creates flora and fauna that feel both familiar in their natural origins and intriguingly strange in their new configurations. By combining stones, fruit, flower buds, and small foliage, she invents unique environments and often hides insects or other invented animals among the plants to mimic their forms. Working on a small scale, Drake focuses on intricate details to foster intimacy and a sense of discovery. Through her art, she hopes to inspire a sense of wonder, encouraging viewers to pause, look closer, and reflect on the infinite ways the natural world can surprise us.
